Opening Credits (Final)

For the opening credits we had to change our preliminary idea due to Copyright issues.
We designed our own credits on a program called LiveType, which help give our piece a more professional look.

Target Market Research

We think that our film will reach a wider audience VIA the internet. In addition, sites such as Youtube, have roughly about 100 Million viewings daily, which should definitely help promote our film .
On the other hand, low budget films such as Centigrade (Producer Madison Graie) took a different approach, by reaching a wider audience in a different way. Centigrade was the first film that used iTunes to promote their film internationally.

AS Media Practical Work

Before we began our task to produce a piece, 'In The Shadows' a slasher/horror film; we allocated ourselves roles. In addition, Maddison and I both worked together on the editing and David worked on Soundtrack. However, Josh and I both found some sites that we could download Copyright free music, which, in conclusion, we chose the music from.
So far for our Media project, we have filmed our footage. We have filmed both at Monks Walk and my house (Ben's) .
We also uploaded our footage to Final Cut Express HD, and imported our clips into separate files, for example, a file for Close ups. In consequence, this made ourselves more organized, and made our editing process faster and more efficient.
During our editing process, we added transition effects including dissolves and FadeIn/FadeOuts. This helped our enhance our continuity for our piece. We also reduced the brightness of the clips to add to the mysterious, spooky feel to our piece.
Afterwards, we exported our edited piece to Soundtrack. We merged the sound from the film and the non-diegetic sounds on Soundtrack. The sounds we used were from www.freeplaymusic.com- which were all Copyright free. We chose those dark and mysterious sounds to build tension to our piece.
In addition, Soundtrack helped us to control the volume of both the diegetic and non-diegetic sounds, for example, we added a fade out for the music after our credits finished.
Overall, we have produced a piece of work which is around 2 minutes as required. We are all happy with our piece, as we feel like it portrays a stereotype of the Slasher/Horror genre (Dumb blonde girl dying at the start.)

New decisions

Today, due to limited members of the group, we had to discuss between the two of us the key aspects of the opening. We may have changed the idea of filming in the alley, due to it being harder to commit a murder scene in a public place. It could be possible to film the murder in Ben's house as it will be easier to control the lighting. However we will need confirmation from Ben himself. Also due David's lack of being in the lessons, we have to have make decisions without him.

However, Josh and I have managed to decided that when the girl is killed, she will be murdered by the slitting of her throat. The only downside to this way of killing, is how we are going to make it an effective cut. If we can't figure out how, we will be stabbing the girl in stomach.

For the stabbing, a potential idea was to have a shot from behind with the killing appearing out of nowhere.

Filming Location

The 'Getting Ready' scene is going to take place in Ben's house which is in Reigate. The college will not be included in the filming.

The 'Alleyway' scene is being filmed near Monks Walk in a secluded alleyway. Hopefully this means that the location is not recognized due to our local filming.
The picture above is the Alleyway where we are going to film our scene. Benji added this photo through his mobile phone to Blogger. Other pictures of Location of Scene are here- http://benjiiimedia.blogspot.com/

Opening Credits

For our opening credits, we have decided to use the music from the opening credits in the sixth sense. We feel the music creates a mysterious feel and would be an interesting way to open the film with the dramatic start after the credits.

Summary

In this lesson we have watching the openings to analysed film openings of the Sixth Sense and The Business; and how to produce our production company logo.
We learnt that we can produce an effective opening like the credits from the S.S and The Business.
In the Sixth Sense, the opening credits were effective showing the producers, actors and the title. It allowed us to visualize the order we would place our credits.
We looked at the opening to The Business in order to think about the camera work and editing for when we shoot our own openings.
